I was delighted to be joined by FCCC Governance Chair Liz Hynes-Musnisky for an engaging visit to the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), a hub of creativity and innovation in the heart of Manhattan. Our day began with a scenic train ride into the city, setting the tone for a productive and inspiring campus visit.

The morning kicked off with a virtual meeting in the office of Dr. Amy Werbel, where we connected with members of FIT’s Faculty Senate Executive Committee. This thoughtful exchange highlighted their dedication to fostering strong shared governance practices that align with FIT’s distinctive mission.

Next, we engaged in another virtual meeting, this time with members of the Working Group on Civic Education and Engagement. The conversation showcased FIT’s commitment to preparing students to be active, informed participants in a rapidly evolving society.

Before lunch, Amy, Liz and I had the opportunity to tour FIT’s vibrant campus, gaining a deeper appreciation for the creativity and energy that define this unique institution.

In the afternoon, I participated in an in-person meeting with key administrators, including FIT’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Yasemin Jones. The discussion underscored their strategic vision and steadfast commitment to academic excellence and student success.

The day concluded with a meeting with FCCC Delegates Eric Ramirez (joining virtually) and Benita Pratt (in-person). Their insights and perspectives were invaluable, further emphasizing the strong faculty voice that is central to FIT’s governance framework.

From start to finish, my visit to FIT was a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and shared governance.

My sincere gratitude to Liz Hynes-Musnisky for joining me and to the faculty, staff, and administrators at FIT for their warm hospitality and engaging conversations. It was an honor to witness the remarkable work happening at this iconic institution!
