The week began with a visit to SUNY Sullivan where FCCC Delegate Anne Ruszkiewicz was a warm and gracious host. Many of you might remember visiting SUNY Sullivan recently as our Fall 2023 Plenary was there.
SUNY Sullivan is located in Loch Sheldrake, NY. Thanks to Liz Carris for reminding me that the original story for the film Dirty Dancing was set at the fictional Kellerman Resort in Loch Sheldrake! (The movie was actually filmed in Virginia and North Carolina).
It was a windy day in Loch Sheldrake, NY as I pulled into the SUNY Sullivan campus. The day began with productive meetings with Interim CAO Rosemarie Hanofee, and newly appointed President David Potash. Both were extremely generous with their time so much so that President Potash and I lost track of it!
We discussed the importance of shared governance and the unique opportunities this moment in history presents for our colleges. This was followed by a lovely lunch with Anne Ruszkiewicz CGL Chana Epstein as well as faculty.
The day concluded with a tour of the campus. Anne described that the campus architecture follows a Jeffersonian model exemplified by a central lawn surrounded by symmetrical connected buildings in order to create a sense of community and openness.
Much thanks everyone at SUNY Sullivan, and in particular to FCCC delegate Anne Ruszkiewicz for organizing such a delightful visit!
