Clinton Community College: October 24, 2024: 5/30

#campus-visit-number-five

Thursday, October 24, 2024

It has taken me a few days to attempt to find words sufficient for this next post, and for our colleagues at Clinton Community College who as one faculty member said, "have had so many things stripped away"...as I write this I am not sure that I have found the words.

My second campus visit last week was to the GORGEOUS Clinton Community College Campus. It might be the most beautiful CC campus I have ever seen.

It is located on Bluff Point in what was once the Hotel Champlain overlooking Lake Champlain. The 500-room hotel opened on June  17, 1890, and was known as "the superb Adirondack and Lake Champlain Resort”.

FCCC delegate Peggy Bolster took me on a tour of the spectacular campus. The photos below are from the veranda looking out onto Lake Champlain and of a "study room" for students!

After our tour Peggy Bolster and CGL Jarrod Cone were joined by 13 faculty (or almost 70% of the teaching faculty at Clinton!)

I realize that as community college faculty we are all doing more with less-yet the inspiration, dedication and commitment shown by our fellow faculty at Clinton Community College gave me chills while I was with them and had me in tears as I drove away. You see, to "save" Clinton Community College this group of faculty are about to be uprooted from their campus and moved into a building on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus (which I toured a few days after my visit).

Thank you again to Peggy Bolster and Jarrod Cone and to all of the faculty at Clinton for being as open and honest and vulnerable during my visit.
